Eutimio Corchado, our dad, better known as “El Guero” first came to the United States as a Bracero when he was a young man. He and our mom, Carmen, his wife of 63 years, were married in San Luis de Cordero, Durango, Mexico where they had many beautiful children, LOL! Our family then moved to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, and our dad returned to California to work. He quickly became a permanent resident of California and in 1968 his application to bring us to the United States was denied because he didn’t earn enough money to support us. So he worked extra hours and saved his money and applied again. In 1972, February 14, 1972, to be exact, The Corchado Family was granted California permanent resident status. We walked across “El Puente Libre” and boarded a Greyhound Bus headed for Dos Palos, California. (I once jokingly asked my dad, “Why Dos Palos? Why not Carmel?” He simply laughed and said, “This is where my brothers were, so here we are.”) Our dad loved the USA for the many opportunities it afforded him and our family. Two of his most proud moments were when he bought his own house in 1977, where Mom still lives, and the other when he became a US citizen! He took his right to vote very seriously and never missed the opportunity to vote. With the exception of Maria Felicidad Chavez of El Paso, TX, Maria Engracia Meraz of Tijuana, Mexico and Juan Pablo Corchado of El Paso, TX, our dad is now with his parents Rosalio Corchado and Rosa Ramirez and his siblings: Alfonso, Mundo, Luisa, Lina, Audolio and his twin brother Delfino. We thank you, God, for allowing him to live for 89 years (12/24/27-09/20/17). And, THANK YOU, Dad , for giving us a better future by bringing us to the United States! With appreciation and love, your children: Hector (Yolanda) Corchado of Dos Palos, CA, Abel (Irma) Corchado of Merced, CA, Genoveva Brittain of Merced, CA, Leticia (DJ) Lemke of Brandon, FL, and Carmen Corchado of Tampa, FL. (Grandchildren: Yadira Corchado of Hacienda Heights, CA, Luis Corchado of Riverside, CA, Julia Corchado of Denver, CO, Elizabeth Brittain of Chico, CA, Melissa Corchado of Merced, CA, and Kyle and Brandon Lemke of Brandon, FL) Until we meet again, Dad. And this time we know you picked The BEST place to live in! A memorial Mass will be on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 1650 Lucerne Ave. in Dos Palos.
